PS5-3 : Humanitarian action in the field – challenges and opportunities of a global workforce


In a fast growing environment, organizations such as MSF & ICRC are evolving in countries around the world in which the complexity of humanitarian interventions is quickly evolving. Whether the challenges are because of highly insecure contexts, complex labor framework and markets, competition due to presence of numerous Non For Profit actors, political or economic instability, growing humanitarian needs (etc…), the humanitarian organizations are confronted with heavy challenges in terms of People or Human Resources Management.



  • To briefly present the main People Management challenges faced by humanitarian organization (such as ICRC & MSF) in field of interventions.
  • To discuss the related strategies in place to get the best out of the workforce knowledge and skills. The latter will be done by discussing matters around Human Resources management & tools such as Learning and Development, Sourcing & Diversity Management or Workforce Mobility.
